Bangkok flooding passes critical point: PM

Wednesday, 16 November 2011 By MCOT

BANGKOK, Nov 15 - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Tuesday reassured the Bangkok public that flooding in the capital has already passed its critical point and that floodwater in eastern part of the city should be totally drained into the sea before the year end.

The premier said the level of floodwater in Bangkok has continuously declined and, regarding the overall situation,Thailand tries to help companies, as floods spread-镀铜电焊网, the crisis has already peaked.

Ms Yingluck reasoned that drainage in east works efficiently and that she expects the situation to return to normal by the end of the year. But for western Bangkok, welded wire pannel, it still depends on repair work of the damaged temporary dykes along the Chao Phraya River,Court finishes hearing Nonthaburi flood case-hesco,密型钢格栅, expected to be completed in the next few days. She conceded that some areas will remain under water but that she has instructed concerned agencies to speed up dredging canals so that they can drain as much water as possible during low tide.

Regarding the gap in the giant sandbag barrier, the Big Bag Barrier, which was widened and adjusted to a 10-metre spillway on Tuesday, the prime minister said its opening will minimise the impact on local residents and facilitate travel by boat. However, the amount of inflowing water must be limited to a volume that can be handled and drained out.

Echoing the prime minister, FROC spokesman Tongthong Chantarangsu said that the spillway will not cause a large amount of water inflow deeper into Bangkok but higher floodwater will be seen only in some areas such as Lak Si.

FROC will closely monitor the situation and speed up draining water.

Big Bags, oversized sandbags, were used to build a barrier to slow the northern run-off into Bangkok to allow the authorities to drain the water out and to save Bangkok's inner areas, but some residents living outside the barrier-protected area angrily dismantled six metres of the embankment. It was later adjusted and described as a spillway on Tuesday.

The action was seen as a compromise by the authorities to help those residents.

Information

The QIAOSHI's Military Barriers or Hesco Bastions is a modern gabion used for flood control and military fortification. It is made of a collapsible metal wire mesh container and heavy duty fabric liner, and used as a temporary to semi-permanent dike or barrier against blast or small-arms. One of the less heralded life- and labor-saving devices of war, it is used on nearly every United States Military base in Iraq as well as on NATO bases in Afghanistan.

Originally designed for use on beaches and marshes for erosion and flood control, the Hesco Bastion quickly became a popular security device in the 1990s.

Assembly
Assembling the Hesco Bastion entails unfolding it and (if available) using a front end loader to fill it with sand, dirt or gravel. The placement of the barrier is generally very similar to the placement of a sandbag barrier or earth berm except that room must generally be allowed for the equipment used to fill the barrier. The main advantage of Military Barrier,Clearing Up The Rubbish-Hesco Bastion,Windows Screen, strongly contributing to their popularity with troops and flood fighters, is the quick and easy setup. Previously, people had to fill sandbags, a slow undertaking, with one worker filling about 20 sandbags per hour. Workers using Military Barrier and a front end loader can do ten times the work of those using sandbags.
The Hesco Barrier come in a variety of sizes. Most of the barriers can also be stacked, and they are shipped collapsed in compact sets. Example dimensions of typical configurations are 46" x 36" x 32 (1.4m x 1.1m x 9.8m) to 7 x 5 x 100 (2.1m x 1.5m x 30m).
A new system of Hesco Bastion developed specially for military use is deployed from a container, which is dragged along the line of ground where the barrier is to be formed, unfolding up to several hundred meters of barrier in minutes, ready for filling with soil by a backhoe.

Protection
Filled with sand, 60 centimetres (24 inches) of barrier thickness will stop rifle bullets and shell fragments. It takes 1.5 metres (five feet) of thickness to prevent penetration by a rocket propelled grenade round. Approximately 1.2 metres (four feet) of thickness provides protection against most car bombs.

HESCO walls can be built to any required length and to any height. The unique joining system allows the user great flexibility in configurations and requirements. One of the key advantages of the system is that any readily available infill material can be utilised. Sand, rubble, rocks, soil, concrete and even snow have been successfully used.

Assoc Prof Suchatvee said a similar system should also be considered for the western part of Bangkok.

Rapid construction is another key feature of the product. A typical wall of HESCO Concertainer units equivalent to approximately 1500 sandbags, can be erected and filled by two men and a single common loader in less than twenty minutes. An equivalent wall constructed of sandbags would take 10 men 7 hours to build.

The bunker is designed to provide safe living accommodation for up to 8 persons giving each person a space of around 2m square. There is up to 2.16m of headroom inside the bunker.

The lower deck would be used as a flood drain during normal situations or during minor or moderate flooding.

Assembling HESCO

Suchatvee Suwansawat, TUTG chairman, yesterday said the proposed tunnel should be built from Bang Pa-in in Ayutthaya to Samut Prakan province.

In addition to the range of HESCO defence wall systems, HESCO Bastion have also designed and developed products for specific applications, such as Bunkers, Sangars and UV Protection.

The components of this set provide a small emplacement with two-foot thick walls and 18" (5.48m) of overhead cover. Embrasure (firing/observation point) forms are included in the set as are roof joists and roofing material.

The upper deck would be used as a road under normal conditions when there were no floods or during minor and moderate flooding.

Product Range

The flat-pack design of HESCO Concertainer units allows for extremely efficient storage and transportation. Folded units can be packaged on standard timber skids or pallets, in containers or as bulk cargo. Over 500m of Mil 1 units can be transported in a single 20ft ISO container.

During major floods, cattle fence, the upper deck would be closed to traffic and turned into a floodway to help speed up the drainage of run-off.

Originally designed for use on beaches and marshes for erosion and flood control, the Hesco Bastion quickly became a popular security device in the 1990s.

Whether used to define boundaries or as a preventative barrier, HESCO units have been employed to safeguard personnel, vehicles, equipment, facilities and other vulnerable target areas in a variety of military, peacekeeping, humanitarian and civilian operations. HESCO units have also been extensively used in civil applications in flood management, erosion control and slope stability applications.

The TUTG will hold the 64-nation World Tunnel Congress 2012 and its 38th General Assembly General Assembly of International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association in Bangkok between May 18 and May 23, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center under the theme "Tunnelling and Underground Space for Global Society".

HESCO units are manufactured from welded mesh, either 8 gauge (4mm) or 6 gauge (5mm) and coated using the Galfan process. Each units is lined with ISO Standard 200g/m 2 non-woven polypropylene Geotextile.

"City planning should be revised to include floodways," he said. "Regulations should be drawn up to specify areas which are reserved as floodways. The floodwater normally flows through these areas for only three months each year, between October and December.

Large tunnels would be practical, more effective and so the best solution to prevent major flooding over the long run.

Typical uses include:

"The people living in the floodways should be properly compensated for allowing water to flow through their land. This should include their expenses in having to modify or lift their homes to avoid possible damage from the water."

HESCO Bastion Concertainer is a straight forward product that is easily and rapidly constructed to create effective and economical protective structures. Originally designed to replace conventional field fortification materials such as sandbags, HESCO units were first used operationally by the British Army in the 1991 Gulf War. HESCO is now in service with many major military organisations including the UK MoD, ADF and the US Military and has become a benchmark in force protection throughout the world.

HAB (HESCO Accommodation Bunker)

A containerised kit has been developed which offers an effective means of transporting all the components required to construct a bunker. The ISO container has a fully opening side, facilitating rapid deployment of all components. The container also comes complete with a pre-fabricated personnel door and a rear escape hatch, both of which can be opened from inside.

The tunnel would be designed as a double-deck underground structure,Geotextile, called a multi-service flood tunnel system, and would also be equipped with hydropower generators for power production, Assoc Prof Suchatvee said.

Two-Man Guard Post/Sanger Package

To construct a 2 man Sanger kit will take approx 20m³ of fill material.

The HAB has been developed as a result of the ever-increasing threat to deployed personnel from indirect fire weapons.

Designed to meet a number of requirements identified by operational users, a variety of off the shelf sets have been configured which include HESCO components and the required additional components tailored to create protective structures quickly and efficiently.

The Thailand Underground and Tunnelling Group has suggested the government invest around 200 billion baht to build a 100km-long tunnel under the eastern section of the outer ring road to prevent future flooding in and around the capital.

The unique, patented design of HESCO units are available in nine different sizes, and in two colours (Sand or Green)] to suit different environments.

Thailand tries to help companies, as floods spread-Welded Box

The flooding since late July has killed 533 people and caused billions of dollars in damage, closing hundreds of inundated factories north of the capital. The water has nearly surrounded Bangkok, flooding a dozen of its outer districts and threatening chaos in the crowded city of more than 9 million people.

Thailand's Board of Investment,Welded Box, which grants tax holidays and other privileges to investment projects, already has taken steps to mitigate flood damage, such as giving tax write-offs for damaged raw materials and easing rules on bringing in foreign nationals to help with recovery.

On top of Thailand's political instability in recent years,Hesco barrier, the floods have raised the possibility foreign investment projects may relocate elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

The industrial closures have had an effect well beyond Thailand, since the factories supply key components for several industries, particularly the automotive and computer sectors.

New measures announced Thursday include allowing companies to temporarily outsource all manufacturing in order to maintain customer deliveries and extending by six months import tax exemptions on replacements for damaged machinery.

BANGKOKThailand on Thursday offered more help to businesses affected by a national flood crisis as the waters spread deeper into Bangkok and risked cutting off a major highway.

Especially hard hit by the flooding have been Japanese companies, led byHondaandToyota, that were forced to close assembly plants in flooded areas. Some have complained they were not given timely and accurate information that would have allowed them to prepare for flooding.

Hesco Barrier-Concerns, floodwaters rise in Bangkok

,Hesco barrier-Concerns, floodwaters rise in Bangkok
The death toll from Thailand's worst flooding in half a century reached 506 Sunday as floodwaters inched southward toward downtown Bangkok, the interior ministry said. With evacuations already affecting at least 11 of Bangkok's 50 districts, its governor, Sukhumbhand Paribatra, on Sunday expressed fresh concerns about even-worse flooding due to malfunctions at 14 flood gates in western Bangkok, the state-run MCOT news agency reported. Moreover, the city's flood relief operations headquarters (which has already been moved once) is now surrounded by water. Even so, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that there are no plans currently to move it, according to MCOT. Advertisement The water continued to rise further Sunday around the city. Hints of seeming normalcy -- like all 18 subway stations operating normally,Hesco barrier, despite some station entrances being closed -- clashed against continuing concerns about the situation and the government's ability to handle it. "I don't know what the government is doing,Welded Box-Thailand tries to help companies, as floods spread," said resident Chaiwat Rattanawitthayapol, as he shopped for water pumps and sandbags to protect his home. "They promised that water would be diverted to the east and west. ... Why is water coming closer and closer to (the) central part? I don't see any improvement." At the sprawling 27-acre Chatuchak Weekend Market, only about 10% of the booths were open. Some merchants reduced prices to draw shoppers. "There are a lot less people (who came) today. ... People are afraid of flooding,Flood Barrier," one shop owner told CNN. Meanwhile, Arun Sricharoon, the market's director, kept a close eye on the approaching waters. A 2-foot (60-centimeter) wall around the market should help prevent flooding, he said. "I think the wall is still able to handle the flood," he said. "But if water spills into the market, and if it affects the safety of shop owners,Hesco Barrier, then we will announce the (market's) closure." Across the country, the flooding -- now in its third month -- has affected 25 of Thailand's 76 provinces. A Thailand Disaster and Mitigation Department report, issued Sunday and reported by MCOT, estimated about 3.1 million people have been affected and 4 million acres of farmland have been damaged. Moreover,Military Bastions-Thai confidence at 10-year low; floods hit more firms, the department said two people are believed missing and about 75 highways have closed. In the provinces of Nakhon Sawan and Ayutthaya, cleanup efforts were under way.

Hesco barriers-HESCO

"We developed the 2012 HESCO Mil units with two of the military's important goals in mind to be more environmentally responsible, and to be more cost-effective during the demilitarization stage of the mission" said Jake McQueen, Sales Manager at HESCO. "Not only is our new product capable of being redeployed when required, cattle fence, its ease of transportation means a fraction of the energy and resources, including the number of personnel and trucks, are needed to remove the previously installed barriers."

HESCO, the leader in the design and manufacture of rapidly deployable force protection barriers, today announced the release of its new range of military and security products. The 2012 HESCO Mil range of protective barriers provides a force protection system with an innovative new design feature that significantly increases the flexibility of the product, allowing it to be rapidly recovered after use.

HESCO has been the supplier of force protection barriers that protect and defend troops and facilities against enemy attacks since 1991,Flood Line, saving countless lives and mission critical assets. HESCO barriers are well-known and relied on by troops around the world to provide safety and protection in the most difficult locations. Acknowledged as the most significant development in field fortifications since the Second World War,Chain Fence, HESCO products have become a key component and the benchmark in force protection throughout the world, and have been used in every major conflict since the first Gulf war.

HESCO

"The ability to quickly empty the barriers and pack them up is a great breakthrough in

force protection," said Jonathan Bird,fence-Chain link fence, HESCO Sales Director. "In addition to reducing the time and costs of leaving the conflict zone, the new design denies adversaries use of leftover barriers after the end of the mission."

拦河坝-new modern barriers

Military Barriers / Hesco Bastions / Military Bastions /Hesco Barriers

Recently a review was done here of Pro-Arts new modern barriers. These are called Hesco Bastions. The ones made by Pro Art are very nice, but you can make your own quite easily with common supplies. They're not that difficult.
You need screen (the stuff in your windows) Hesco Bastion, some plasticard or even cardboard woyuld do 石笼网, and some nylon cloth. Using the dimensions from QiaoShi's web site 掩体-A UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter from 2nd Batta, to build the medium size bastions gabion, here is what you do...............

Scaled down to 1/35 Hesco Barrier Hesco Barrier,

the front, back, and sides are 42 inches wide which is 3.04 cm
the height is 54 inches which scales down to 3.9 cm.

Cut out your cardboard or plastic card to these dimensions, and glue them
together.

cover your plastic card or cardboard with your nylon razor wire, but leave a little excess at the
top. you can use white glue to attach your fabric if your using cardboard.

cut your screen to cover around your bastions from top to bottom, but dont
attach it yet.

Next 掩体, paint the fabric part of your bastions a light gray color, and paint your
screen a metal color. I like Model Master Steel Hesco Barrier-A UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter from, but you can use whatever you
like.

Once your paint is dry, you can now cover your cloth bastions with screen and
glue them together. try to make your seam somewhere inconspicuous. If you look
at pictures, you will notice there is a rod that goes on each corner. If you
want to add this detail, you can simply cut a paper clip to length (the straight
part), and insert it between the cloth and the screen wire mesh, and glue it in place.

Remember the little cloth flap we left at the top??? well 拦河坝, now, you simply fold
it over the outside of the bastion. If you havent painted it, do so now.
